Your customer might be in Paris, Brussels or Montreal

The Moroccan diaspora is one of the largest in the world. More than 5 million Moroccans live in Europe, with over 900,000 in France alone. Add to that communities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. Canada, particularly Montreal, also has a significant Moroccan community.

These potential buyers are looking for products they can't easily find in France or Belgium: quality modest fashion, modern traditional Moroccan clothing, beauty products oriented toward the Arab market. Your Moroccan brand has an authenticity advantage that generic European brands cannot replicate.

What changes when you sell internationally from Morocco

Logistics. Shipping from Morocco to France takes 5 to 15 days depending on the carrier. Timelines are longer than European buyers are used to (Amazon Prime has created 24-48h delivery expectations). You need to manage this expectation in your communication and delivery promise.

International shipping costs are significant. A 1 to 2 kg package to France costs between 120 and 250 MAD depending on the carrier, which impacts your margins or price competitiveness.

Currency. Your French and Belgian customers will pay in euros. Either you configure your Shopify store to display prices in euros (via Shopify Markets), or you redirect to a separate store.

International payments. Receiving euro payments from abroad requires either a compatible gateway (PayPal, Stripe via a foreign account), or going through solutions like Wise Business to convert euros to MAD.

How to target the Moroccan diaspora on social media

On Meta Ads, you can target people of Moroccan origin living in France. This is done via geolocation (France) combined with specific behaviors and interests: interest in Morocco, languages spoken (French + Arabic), interest in Islamic fashion, Moroccan cuisine, etc.

Content that works with the Moroccan diaspora often plays on nostalgia and cultural belonging. Products that evoke Morocco, family values, an aesthetic that mixes modernity and tradition.

Moroccan influencers based in France are particularly effective for reaching this audience. They have a naturally diasporic following and understand the codes of both cultures.

The specific markets

France is the largest market for the Moroccan diaspora in Europe. Strong concentration in Paris, Marseille, Lyon. The modest fashion market in France is in strong growth, driven by a younger generation of Muslim women looking for style, not just modesty.

Belgium has a very large Moroccan community proportionally, particularly in Brussels, Antwerp, and Liège. A smaller market than France but very culturally engaged.

Canada (primarily Montreal) has a newer but growing Moroccan diaspora. Generally higher purchasing power. Transatlantic shipping is more complex and expensive, but average baskets are often higher to justify the fees.
